deer discovered
the hosta plants
garden perennials
grow and rest
return again
sometimes when I pray
sometimes when I pray
before a meal, I remember
my grandmother’s prayers
in Swedish, and her voice
if I could read
if I could read
every book
in my small library
I would then
begin again
