sometimes when I pray
before a meal, I remember
my grandmother’s prayers
in Swedish, and her voice
if I could read
if I could read
every book
in my small library
I would then
begin again

in summer gardens
sounds of work outside
daylilies bloom soon
books and journals
to read again
green leaves
in sun and a little wind

and bird songs
